We are delighted to announce the arrival of Stephen Hall, who started as our new CEO on 23rd July.
Stephen has over 20 years’ experience of working at senior leadership levels within the education and charity sectors with a background of successfully leading business growth and learning innovation. He has most recently been CEO at Books Beyond Words and Dyslexia Action.
Stephen says “I am very excited to be Makaton’s new Chief Executive. I’m passionate about both education and supporting people with special educational needs and wider learning disabilities, and see Makaton ‘like the letters through a stick of rock’ throughout my career. I am looking forward to meeting as many of our Tutors and contacts as possible over the coming weeks.”
Given the vital importance of finding an individual to deliver the right strategy in partnership with tutors and other external stakeholders, and to provide strong internal leadership and development within the organisation, we worked during the recruitment process with Gatenby Sanderson, a well-respected external search firm in both the not-for-profit and public sectors. We had 29 well qualified and diverse applicants in total for the role and selected Stephen through a rigorous process.
We would like to say a very big thank you to Terri Lazarri who played an interim COO role during the period and who now returns to her role as our Sales and Marketing Director. Terri brought important stability and direction in a challenging period for us.
