Michael Barnett is running the London Marathon as Mr Tumble, to raise money for The Makaton Charity.
A couple of weeks on from my first blog and the fundraising effort is starting to gear up so the place to begin is to say a VERY BIG THANK YOU for the donations so far. Every pound will make a difference and I am just as focused on reaching the fundraising target of £26,200 as on the training for the Marathon. Here are some examples of how your money will be used by The Makaton Charity:
In my last post, I shared the story of Alex who, through using Makaton symbols and signs, can now communicate her needs to her mum. I have arranged to visit the Specialist Centre for children with moderate learning difficulties at my local school to meet some other children who benefit from using Makaton. It will be really good to hear their stories about what a difference Makaton makes for them.
I should also say a word or two about my training, or the lack of it due to a minor calf injury. Having got the all clear from my physio to start running again, I was out the next morning for an easy jog just to test my legs out. The joy of actually being on the streets again was a fantastic feeling but I genuinely thought that my relief was nothing compared with how anyone struggling to make themselves understood must feel when, at last, they can communicate their needs and desires. Very humbling.
Finally, and you must have expected this having read so far, if you are able to make a donation to The Makaton Charity, for whatever amount, please visit my Just Giving page https://www.justgiving.com/MichaelRBarnett/
