We are delighted to announce that The Makaton Charity will
be working in partnership with Dimensions to provide essential Makaton training
and support to their staff
Dimensions provide evidence-based, outcomes-focused support
for people with learning disabilities, autism and complex needs. They are one
of the largest not-for-profit support providers in the UK and currently support
around 3,500 people and their families throughout England and Wales, with help
from 7,000 members of staff.
Simon Gosney, Head of Learning and Development at
Dimensions, said “It is hard to imagine living without the ability to
communicate with those around you. Many of the people we support do not use
speech to communicate and for some of those, Makaton is an indispensable fact
of life. We’re thrilled to be now able to train many more colleagues to be able
to supplement words with signs and so create better relationships with the
people we support and help them maintain and develop connections with others”.
We look forward to collaborating with Dimensions to upskill
staff and raise the awareness of Makaton, to ensure that everyone living with
learning or communication difficulties has the tools and resources they need to
understand and be understood.
