Family advisory service

The Makaton Charity's Family Advisory Service gives parents and other family members the chance to speak to someone about using Makaton in their daily family life.

Makaton Family Advisor

Tracy King is our Family Advisor. She has twin daughters, who have speech and language difficulties: both have shown traits from the autistic spectrum and have difficulties with aspects of social communication. To promote good communication, language acquisition, and independence, she has used Makaton in different ways at home since her daughters were three years old. Makaton has also helped her daughters to develop early literacy skills at school.

As a Makaton regional tutor, Tracy has supported parents of early years children in using Makaton in and out of their homes, and has seen Makaton being used across a spectrum of disabilities. She also has a brother who has experienced severe cognitive and physical disability since birth. So she understands the communication difficulties of adult users and their families.
