No Pens Day Wednesday 2014
No Pens Day Wednesday is all about encouraging early years settings, schools and specialist provisions to put down their pens and to run a day of speaking and listening activities.

Implementing the 0 to 25 special needs system
An updated implementation pack that gives advice to local authorities and health partners about implementing the 0 to 25 special needs system from September 2014 has been released.
Toad on the road
Free summer holiday activity in Surrey and Hampshire for children with special needs.Toad on the road is an interactive, multi-sensory performance based on The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame.This event will be free for children with special needs (ages 4-19) and their accompanying carer.
Lanterns Nursery School recognised at national communication awards
Congratulations to Lanterns Nursery School and Childen's Centre in Winchester for being highly commended in the Early Years Setting of the Year category at the 2013/2014 Shine a Light Awards for their work supporting children with special educational needs (SEN).
Signing for Valentine's Day

Mrs Jean Parratt (1923 – 2014)
It is with deep sadness that we share the news that Mrs Jean Parratt has died. Jean was instrumental in the development of Makaton signing and training and was our first National Signing Advisor.

Makaton Motivators celebrated at The Grange
The Grange is a registered charity based in Bookham in Surrey.  They provide a range of services to adults with disabilities including accommodation, training in life and social skills, and opportunities to work.
Dwylo'r Enfys wins BAFTA Cymru
Congratulations to all involved with S4C's Makaton children's programme Dwylo'r Enfys (Rainbow Hands), which is produced by Ceidiog, for winning an award in the Children’s Programme category at the British Academy Cymru Awards 2013.
Financial award winner
The Makaton Charity's Finance Manager, Lizz Nelhams, has won the award in the Planning and Budgeting category of this year's Sayer Vincent Financial Leadership Awards.

The Communication Trust is running its yearly No Pens Day Wednesday campaign on Wednesday 9th October 2013.No Pens Day Wednesday encourages schools to put down their pens and pick up their language by running a day where learning is focused around speaking and listening activities.
The Communication Trust welcomes our CEO to its Programme Board
Lysa Schwartz, CEO of The Makaton Charity, has been appointed to the Programme Board of The Communication Trust. The Programme Board is responsible for the direction and management of The Communication Trust’s strategy and yearly operational plan.

Dwylo'r Enfys nominated for a worldwide Rockie Award
S4C's Makaton children's programme Dwylo'r Enfys has been nominated for a prestigious Rockie Award at the 2013 Banff World Media Festival.Dwylo'r Enfys (Rainbow Hands), which is produced by Ceidiog, has been nominated in the Children Programmes (2+) Non-fiction category.
The Autism Show
Come and see us at The Autism Show. It's on 14th and 15th June at the Excel Centre,  London. We will be on Stand A15.The Autism Show is a national event for autism, dedicated to the two million people in the UK who live and work with autism on a daily basis.

The Better Communication Research Programme
The Department for Education has recently published the outputs from the Better Communication Research Programme (BCRP).  The research programme ran for three years and was designed to investigate the progress of children with speech, language and communication needs over time.
