Clearer communication

James Andrew, 3, has Down's Syndrome and some autistic tendencies. He spends two days at an assesment nursery and three half days at a private nursery.

His adopted mother, Linda Andrew, tells his story:

"I heard about Makaton from a community nurse, and we started using it nine months ago. I bought books and a Something Special video, and have just been given signing sheets by the assesment nursery.

"Only my husband and I use Makaton with James. Two of our grandchildren are learning it but they don't live near.

"I enjoy learning Makaton and find it fun. Having the video makes it easier. Although it's too early to assess its full impact, James' communication has definitely become clearer ."
